.Please pray for Addison Kennedy.

My little niece was born today! Addison Kennedy Abernethy, born at 11:12 am. Once again, I had the privilege and honor to be my sister labor coach and witness her birth. This was a fast one too- she went from 6 cm to 10 in 1 hour and pushed through 2 contractions! Addison was quick to join us, although she was 4 days past her due date!

As quick as she was to join us, she was also, just a quickly swept away by the NICU Dr.'s and staff. Her coloring was very purple and blue and they were concerned about the condition of her heart. So, unfortunately, Lotte only got to hold her baby for moments, before she was taken away for many many tests.

The results of those tests proved to be vital and difficult for us all to hear. As it turns out Addison has a heart defect known as Transposition of the great vessels. It is a congenital heart defect in which the two major vessels that carry blood away from the heart -- the aorta and the pulmonary artery -- are switched (transposed).

Addison has been taken to another hospital, where she will undergo a procedure called a cardiac catheterization , and will then by the end of the week undergo a heart surgery to switch the flow of blood through her heart.

Obviously, this is no small thing. Lotte is heart broken that she was not able to even hold her new baby and now has to be separated from her for at least the night, let alone days or weeks. Please pray for Lotte and Wes and especially Addision.

Isn't it good news that none of this was a surprise to God, and that he is in control. How sweet to know we can trust in him. Below are a few pictures I was able to take. Things happened so quickly and the room was so dark during the delivery, I do not have many good ones at all. The last two are what we saw when Addision was being transported to the other hospital.

Tali - we are praying for your sister and the family and for baby Addison. You are absolutely right, it is WONDERFUL news to know that God knew, he knows and he cares more deeply for us than we know, he is for us and our good. Praying that your sisters heart is comforted by that as she is away from her baby girl. Praising him for this new little life and for all that he is going to do! Love you, Hil

Tali please let everyone know that we are praying for them - that God would grant peace and wisdom to see you all through this difficult time. And of course that He would choose to heal little, precious Addison!

Thanks for sharing with us so that we can pray for sweet baby Addison, and for your entire family. Read this today from Elizabeth Elliot "But safety, as the Cross shows, does not exclude suffering. All that was of course beyond me when I was a child, but as I began to learn about suffering I learned that trust in those strong arms means that even our suffering is under control. We are not doomed to meaninglessness. A loving Purpose is behind it all, a great tenderness even in the fierceness."

.coming home.

Well, the past 24 hours have changed things again for us! The biggest update, is that we are being discharged tomorrow afternoon some time! The reason this is so crazy is that the Dr. who was on the floor yesterday, was telling us she wanted to keep us here for the entire first month of Jack's treatment. We had begun to think through how we could do this as a family and all the changes that would entail.... and then our nurse came in this morning and told us she was pretty certain we were going home, as early as today if we wanted!! Let me tell you about the past three days that lead up to this decision of our doctor. Firstly, you should know that when Jack was diagnosed with Leukemia, he had a blast count in his blood of 37. That count is now at ZERO!!!! After the central line was put in on Thursday, they began his chemo treatments Friday. He had been having a fever up until that time. He has responded so well to the chemo, and other medications, that he has been fever free since...

at the hospital

I have long been meaning to update about the health of our family, but as you will read, we have not had much time for the blog. As I write, I am sitting in the Pediatric Emergency Room, waiting for Jack to return from getting a sonogram done on his abdomen. For the past month, he has been pretty sick, with ear infections, and various other ailments. The issues became pressing, when we noticed his glands in his groin area swollen and he was limping. This quickly escalated to where he could no longer walk at all. We took him for blood work, and they found that he had gotten Lyme Disease. We thought we had caught it in the early stages, and so the Dr. began a cycle of amoxicillin . That was 3 weeks ago. His glands all over his body have continued to swell, and he has been pretty much miserable. So here we are today, to see if this is all Lyme Disease, or if something else is causing all of this.
